Hotel Oscar is committed to making tourism more sustainable in the future. We work continuously to develop responsible tourism practices, reflected at Oscar in initiatives such as reducing water consumption and food waste, managing waste sustainably and making responsible purchasing choices.

Green Key-certified Hotel Oscar 

Hotel Oscar is Green Key certified, and in autumn 2025 we were also awarded the Sustainable Travel Finland label in recognition of our valuable, long-term work to promote sustainable tourism. Accommodation providers awarded the Green Key label are committed to raising environmental awareness among their staff and guests, improving energy and water efficiency, and reducing the environmental impact of their operations. Green Key is an international environmental certification for the tourism and accommodation industry.Ecological sustainabilityAt Hotel Oscar, responsibility and ecological sustainability guide our work every day. We monitor water and energy consumption at our property and continually develop ways to reduce it. We measure our property’s carbon footprint each year and aim to reduce it annually.Our restaurant offers vegetarian, organic and locally sourced products, both on the à la carte menu and at the breakfast buffet. We continually strive to increase the number of responsibly sourced ingredients in our selection. The restaurant takes various measures to minimise food waste, including carefully planning menus and ingredient orders and encouraging guests to take only as much food as they can eat at breakfast. Our restaurant does not use endangered or protected animal species as ingredients.We recycle all waste generated at our property in accordance with waste legislation and waste management regulations, and we encourage our guests to recycle too.We also encourage our guests to act responsibly during their stay.

Economic and social responsibilityOur property is committed to using its financial resources responsibly. By operating responsibly, we ensure that our business and tourism in the region can remain viable in the future.We make purchases and investments responsibly, and communicate this to our partners, whom we also expect to act responsibly. We work only with trusted, regular suppliers and do not support the grey economy.We prevent corruption through measures such as accurate bookkeeping, staff guidelines, and the option to submit anonymous feedback if corruption is suspected.

Sociocultural sustainabilityWe treat every employee and customer we meet equally and do not discriminate against anyone on the basis of any internal or external factor. Our recruitment criteria are inclusive and based on qualifications and suitability. All our employees are covered by company-provided occupational and leisure-time accident insurance, as well as Fennia medical expenses insurance.Accessibility has been taken into account in our facilities, and we continuously strive to improve it.Our property is committed to promoting and preserving local culture, and we work closely with local cultural organisations.
